I’ve spent years working with publishers, brands, and cultural projects.
I’ve illustrated and written children’s books. Today, I also make abstract art.

I create intuitive and contemplative works through the technique of Suminagashi, the ancient Japanese practice of “floating ink.” Ink is allowed to dance on the surface of water, and its movement is then captured on paper, generating unrepeatable images. Each piece is unique, impossible to replicate.

My practice stems from the desire to create art that is not only observed, but experienced as a space of presence, listening, and transformation. I’m interested in art as a form of emotional and spiritual healing, something capable of slowing mental noise and reconnecting the viewer with a more introspective and authentic part of themselves. I’m inspired by natural processes, water, impermanence, and everything that escapes absolute control. I chose Suminagashi because it requires a constant dialogue between intention and surrender: water cannot be controlled, only collaborated with.

My creative process is spontaneous and meditative. I begin by allowing the ink to move freely across the water, observing the forms that emerge without forcing them. Once dry, the prints are manually reworked through cuts, layering, and recomposition. It is in this phase that flow meets conscious choice. If the water decides the movement, I welcome and transform its direction.

The name I sign my artwork with is Babo Tae, a word I used to say as a child, one I couldn’t quite pronounce.
It stayed with me, untouched, like a small silly secret worth keeping.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_button button_url=”https://www.carlottascalabrini.it/index.php/contact/” button_text=”Get In Tocuh” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”a30b17d4-93ca-4e94-b60e-0fad32ebe2b5″ custom_button=”on” button_text_size=”16px” button_text_color=”#000000″ button_bg_color=”#FFFFFF” button_border_width=”0px” button_border_radius=”0px” button_letter_spacing=”0px” button_font=”Inter|500|||||||” button_icon=”$||divi||400″ background_layout=”dark” custom_padding=”16px|28px|16px|28px|true|true” button_text_size_tablet=”15px” button_text_size_phone=”14px” button_text_size_last_edited=”off|desktop” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_image src=”https://www.carlottascalabrini.it/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/IMG_1763405009788-scaled.jpeg” title_text=”Shot with OldRoll Black M.” _builder_version=”4.27.4″ _module_preset=”default” transform_translate=”108px|0px” max_width=”73%” max_width_tablet=”400px” max_width_phone=”400px” max_width_last_edited=”on|tablet” max_height_last_edited=”off|tablet” custom_padding=”||0px|||” border_color_all=”#FFFFFF” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ admin_label=”Image” _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”0px||0px||true|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%” max_width=”none” custom_padding=”0px||0px||true|false” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.16″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

Who am I?My name is Carlotta Scalabrini, visual artist, creative director and illustrator.I’m the co-founder of Comó, a creative direction studio.
